Getting back on track
Submitted by admin on February 11, 2010 - 21:46
Well, it’s been over a year since I entered the last chapter in my Genesis 2.0 novel, and I finally felt ready to get back into it, having finally had a brilliant idea as to — (sorry, can’t tell you) — but it’s a kicker. I pulled out the Eee Pc form my carry bag and fired it up, ready to plug in the power when I saw the battery had over 2 hours left on it. I love the 7 hour battery (admittedly I’ve only gotten 6 hours 15 minutes on it by playing with the settings, but still, that destroys the two hours my Media Laptop gives me). The Eee Pc is only for writing. It runs Win XP and I’ve loaded onto it: Q10 — excellent for writing short stories; yWriter 5 — everyone knows this one; and MyNovel 3.0. Genesis 2.0 was originally started on yWriter but today, I transferred it over chapter by chapter to MyNovel (which is a bit slow as it is heavy for an eee pc). yWriter and MyNovel are similar but I forked out $40 for it, so I better use it. I am glad I took 13 months off from my novel and just wrote short stories, I feel I have grown in that area and I am very impressed with some of the complex storylines I can weave into five thousand words. Realising this I have found renewed energy for Genesis 2.0. Triskaideka Books, headed by yours truly has some serious horror flying your way. First the Masters of Horror Anthology, a lot of kick arse ideas and well thought out terror. This is not for the squeamish nor the PC crowd, don’t even think about ordering a copy unless you are willing to leave your sanity at the door. The Game, is also under going a second proofread before it is formatted into book form, PDF’d and proofread again by a third party. I don’t want to see the same problems my publisher had with The Last Church, so I am being extra careful — perhaps overly so, but this is a system that seems pretty good and is what I intend to do with every book we take on down the road. The only problem is funding. Printers are really expensive (no surprise there. Wish I owned The Espresso Machine). I am applying to Creative Arts NZ, in the hope of qualifying for some support to get this company off the ground, get it registered and get books printed, pay my contracted workers (currently working for a percentage of profits — if any). They are doing excellent work. I have decided to do my best to get distribution for NZ author titles in NZ and even across the ditch. I will present to the distributor for *** *** ***** and others I have investigated. I will also release books via POD in the US with Lulu.com. Mainly US based titles will go the lulu way but all Kiwi titles will have both. I am currently funding everything by the amount of overtime I can get LOL. I guess a lot of small presses are doing it this way. Wow. I’m busy. But, by God, I love it and wouldn’t have it any other way. I want to help bring the NZ genre authors to NZ readers. Horror (Thrillers), Sci-Fi, Fantasy, some non-Fiction. I believe there is a large market in NZ for genre novels. And my goal is to prove this theory. We’ll give you thrillers that will rip your lungs out, SF that will whisk you away and fantasy that will break your grip on reality. Add some (selected) non-fiction to increase your understanding of certain subjects you won’t find in standard bookstores — and you’ve got a recipe for awesome times. Crikey, this post started off as a “getting back on track” post. It was only meant to be a few lines. Oh well, guess I made more to say. Take care all. |
